Aqueduct Flea Market Vendors Association

Generating Economic Activity and Creating Jobs for New York City

The Aqueduct Flea Market Vendors Association welcomes you!
SAVE THE FLEA MARKET.

Recently The Governor of New York, David A. Paterson and Genting New York, LLC announced a deal to build a casino at Aqueduct and permanently close the Flea Market resulting in the loss of over 1500 jobs.
Here are the facts:
They have cancelled the Flea Market lease!
They have NOT included the Flea Market in the new Development.
They have NOT made any provisions for the 1500 plus jobs that will be lost.

 You need to consider these negative impacts of the Casino;
  • Street Parking loss for residents, Gamblers will park on the streets instead of paying for parking at the Casino.
  • Loss of jobs & economic activity for NYC, which flea market will you go to shop? NJ or Long Island
  • Prostitution and Crimes will increase, this will happen in your neighborhoods and Casino will become a staging area for neighborhood crime.
  • Drunk driving and disorderly conduct will rise putting you and your kids at risk.
  • The NYPD will be overburdened by the new casino leaving less resources for your neighborhood and it will take them even longer to respond to emergencies.
  • The eventual Decline of our family suburb neighborhoods-Ozone Park, Howard Beach, South Richmond Hill, Richmond Hill, South Ozone park, Lindenwood, Hamilton Beach, Woodhaven, all heavily family neighborhoods.
We the vendors believe that the Flea Market can co-exist with the casino which will also benefit from the 10,000 plus weekend shoppers at the Aqueduct Flea Market. We will revamp the Flea market so that it is in keeping with the new aesthetic of the casino and ask both Gov. Paterson and Genting New York, LLC to include the Flea Market in their overall development plan now and in all future developments.
