Aqueduct Flea Market Vendors Association
and the Indo-Caribbean Alliance
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS This Saturday!
Since the announcement of the new Casino being built at Aqueduct there have been many rumours circulating. Here are the facts:They have cancelled the Flea Market lease! They have NOT included the Flea Market in the new Development. They have NOT made any provisions for the 1500 plus jobs that will be lost. the Indo-Caribbean Alliance and the Aqueduct Flea Market Vendors Association has repeatedly reached out to all parties involved without any success, but a lot of talk. We have decided to hold a petition drive and awareness campaign on Saturday November 27, 2010 at the Aqueduct Flea Market, Rockaway Boulevard and 111th Street (next to home depot) and we are calling for volunteers to help get signatures and raise awareness of this injustice. Volunteer orientation at 9:30 AM.

The New York Racing Association (NYRA) and NYS Gov. Paterson made a deal with Genting New York, LLC/Genting Malaysia Berhad to developed the Aqueduct racetrack into a Casino hybrid or “racino”. We the Aqueduct Flea Market Vendors Association believe that the flea Market can co-exist with the Casino and both can benefit from the 10,000 shoppers every weekend.Without your support, NYRA, Gov. Paterson and Genting will permanently and unnecessarily close the historic Aqueduct Flea Market resulting in the loss of jobs and the livelihood of hundreds of families and deprive you, our residents, of an important low-cost shopping alternative you have depended on for decades. We are strongly in favor of keeping the flea market in our community and object to any actions by NYRA, Gov. Paterson, Genting New York, LLC and/or any other party that would directly or indirectly displace the Flea market workers without any plan for their rehabilitation or relocation. We call on the relevant stakeholders to include the Flea Market in the Aqueduct development plans. Thank you for your support. Aqueduct Flea Market Vendors Association.
